county located in the
U.S. state of
Georgia. It was created on December 10, 1807. As of 2000, the population was 44,874. The 2007 Census Estimate shows a population of 47,520

Dublin,
Georgia.
History
The county was named for
John Laurens, a soldier in the
American Revolutionary War.
Geography
According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 819
square miles (2,120
km²). 812 square miles (2,104 km²) of it's land, and 6 square miles (16 km²) of it (0.76%) is water.

census of 2000, there were 44,874 people, 17,083 households, and 12,180 families residing in the county. The
population density was 55 people per square mile (21/km²). There were 19,687 housing units at an average density of 24 per square mile (9/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 63.44%

There were 17,083 households out of which 33.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.30% were
married couples living together, 17.10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.70% were non-families. 25.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the county the population was spread out with 26.80% under the age of 18, 9.10% from 18 to 24, 28.00% from 25 to 44, 22.80% from 45 to 64, and 13.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 92.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.40 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $32,010, and the median income for a family was $38,586. Males had a median income of $29,412 versus $21,711 for females. The
per capita income for the county was $16,763. About 14.70% of families and 18.40% of the population were below the
poverty line, including 26.30% of those under age 18 and 18.90% of those age 65 or over.
